MarriageMondays: Honeymooning @ Garden in the Sky
Our first real honeymoon stop in Taiwan was Sky Yard near Taichung (city located in central Taiwan). It’s a hundred year old home transformed into a bed and breakfast.

Back in the day, Taiwanese people would live in houses like these with not just their immediate family but also their extended family members. Married women would leave her father’s house and live with her husband’s family in these types of housings called, si-her-yuan (四合院). These housings were made built in a shape of an “U” with a square shaped yard in the middle and surrounded on three sides with rooms. Each room would then be occupied by a different family but everyone would share the same living room, dinning area and kitchen. Imagine the family dynamics of having to share all that space and be living in such close proximity. Need lots of grace and endurance that’s for sure!

I especially loved the view! I was reading a Psalm which spoke of the mountains praising the Lord while looking at this sight! It was so beautiful.

The great thing about this place was that they provided all three meals every day we stayed there so we didn’t need to leave and go looking for food. By the time we arrived here, we were so tired and worn out from the wedding in America and the reception in Taipei that we were glad to just zonk out and take it easy for awhile. The people working at Sky-yard were a little worried that we were bored since we didn’t leave the place much, I just told them we were really tired : ). The food was delicious by the way!

The gardens surrounding the B&B was beautiful.

Dustin and I took a walk through a bamboo forest nearby

We also drove up to a tea plantation nearby. The strands of tea bushes decked the mountain sides like strings of jade necklaces. It was quite a sight. If you’re every in Taiwan, it’s worth staying here to get a more traditional Taiwanese experience.
