The Main Thing Most Single Girls Are Anxious About

The question I’ve heard most single girls ask (including myself when I was single) was, how do I not allow my boyfriend or husband distract me from a wholehearted pursuit of the Lord.

I myself am pretty familiar with what I’m like and my own tendencies and this was an area I was majorly worried about. Even when Dustin and I were dating, I’d constantly scrutinize our relationship, afraid and worried that dating was causing me to backslide.

I didn’t want him to be too nice to me, too patient with me for fear of licentiousness creeping in to my walk with the Lord. Looking back, I now know that I have nothing to worry about neither do you if those are the worries you carry in your own heart.

Relationships, especially those that are of the Lord, (but even those that are not) will lead you closer to Him. If there’s even an inkling of desire in your heart to walk in the fullness God has for you, He is faithful to bring you into holiness. Being confident in His faithfulness and mercy is what will keep us on the path of life, not entertaining fears and having wrong view of who God is.

Our anxieties and fears are indications of how much we don’t know God’s character and love. But these emotions are not bad, they are opportunities, invitations into greater revelation of who God is. Tell Him you’re scared, tell Him you’re worried, come to Him. He has an open embrace waiting for you and answers that will bring peace to your heart.

Every relationship, especially marriage will not only reveal another aspect of just how wonderful God is but also in the most gentle way lead you into continual transformation into Christ’s likeness.

If you don’t know if he’s “the one,” ask the Lord, He will answer you and give you clarity! (He’s help break up my two previous relationships when I asked Him for His help! Matthew 7:7). If you can’t let go of a friendship or a relationship that’s destructive, ask the Lord to help you. If you want a relationship to be redirected back to the Lord, ask Him!

We spend so much time (myself included) entertaining anxious thoughts, fears and pain by trying to find the answer on our own, being led away by the enemy’s lie that the Lord is ashamed of us or doesn’t want to help us when the answer and strength is only found in Christ alone.

Oh Lord! Remind us everyday of Your constant lovingkindness, inscribe upon our hearts, the eyes of the prodigal’s father who saw his son from afar and ran to welcome his son with a loving embrace. Help us know You run to us when we are afraid, worried and burdened. Help us simply come to You when we are troubled.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
