MarriageMondays: is it really true what they say?

What have you heard about marriage? The opinion perpetuated in the world on the subject of marriage can be summed up in this: marriage is the end of your freedom and when romance dies. Very motivating indeed.

Despite the fact that I “know” the above statement is NOT true, the whole process of dating unto marriage exposed these little critters hanging out in my heart and mind. The Lord used this journey (that I’m still on) to strengthen me to wrestle, capture and defeat each and every lie that becomes exposed.  We’ve been called and given access through Christ to defeat the enemy.

Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. -Revelation 12:7-8

Especially for us women, we need to realize and remind one another that just because something FEELS true does not MAKE it true. Truth is a PERSON. He is Jesus Christ and in Him there is no shadow of turning (James 1:17). Anything that comes against truth, we need to fight and capture that thought by leaning into God.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. -2 Corinthians 10:5

In an age where it is encouraged to just be how you feel and truth is subjective, we need to realize that we’re in a battle and we need to take up our arms and fight.

Marriage is a doorway into encountering God’s love and knowing who He is in a greater way. It is not the bonds of covenant that removes joy, love and peace. It is the absence of it and God which creates all that the enemy is telling us to fear about marriage.

The devil is a liar. We need to call it like it is.
